Local nonprofits make a bigger IMPACT with $40,000 award from GSK in the Triangle region of North Carolina

Issued: Research Triangle Park, NC

GSK and Triangle Community Foundation today issued the call for applications for the 2018 GSK IMPACT Awards. This annual awards program recognizes local nonprofit organizations that are breaking down health barriers in communities across the Triangle region.

“Local nonprofit organizations make the Triangle a healthier place to live and work,” said Becki Lynch, Acting Director, Community Partnerships, GSK. “Through our GSK IMPACT Awards program, we celebrate organizations that help our neighbors access healthy foods and stay active, find high-quality jobs and education, and strengthen their family and social supports – because we know that these things are fundamental to a healthy community.”

A $40,000 GSK IMPACT Award can go a long way for a local nonprofit. Diaper Bank of North Carolina (@DiaperBankNC) won in 2017: “The GSK IMPACT Award is adding up to significant change in our community – helping 14,285 girls receive feminine hygiene products so they can attend school with peace of mind, enabling 6,153 parents to have necessary diapers to bring their children to daycare while they pursue work and supporting 2,222 seniors to stay active and engaged by providing adult incontinence supplies,” said Michelle Old, Executive Director of Diaper Bank of North Carolina. “This money continues to further our goal to distribute dignity and open doors to family stability, education, and overall community health.”

The GSK IMPACT Awards honor effective nonprofit organizations that are working hand-in-hand with the community to make neighborhoods healthier. The GSK IMPACT Awards program is one of several charitable programs GSK offers in the US as part of a commitment to building healthier communities and a healthy America. Since it began, over $10 million has been awarded across the Triangle Region and Greater Philadelphia, PA. This is the 10th year of the program in the Triangle region and GSK is proud to continue its partnership with Triangle Community Foundation in the administration of the awards.

“The Foundation is dedicated to working with passionate donors to build strong nonprofits and successful community leaders, so that this can be a region where everyone thrives,” says Lori O’Keefe, President and CEO, Triangle Community Foundation. “We recognize that our area’s nonprofits are key partners in creating an environment where all members of our community can prosper and be healthy, and we’re honored to continue our partnership with GSK to recognize that success.”
