GSK, Triangle Community Foundation Issue Call for Applications for GSK IMPACT Awards Totaling $400,000

Local nonprofits working to build a healthier community encouraged to apply for ten $40,000 awards

GlaxoSmithKline (@GSKUS) and Triangle Community Foundation (@TriComFdn) today issued the call for applications for the 2016 GSK IMPACT Awards. This annual awards program will honor up to ten local nonprofit organizations with $40,000 each in recognition of their exceptional achievements in contributing to a healthier Triangle Region.

“At GSK, we know that place matters when it comes to health,” said Becki Lynch, Manager, US Community Partnerships, GSK. “Through the GSK IMPACT Awards, we recognize outstanding local nonprofit organizations that help community members access healthy foods and safe places to play and exercise, find high-quality jobs and education, strengthen their family and social supports, and many other services that make the Triangle region a healthy place to live, learn, work and thrive.”

The GSK IMPACT Awards honor innovative and collaborative nonprofit organizations with evidence-informed programs that are helping people – especially the underserved – live healthier lives. GSK IMPACT Awards program is one of several charitable programs GSK offers in the US as part of a commitment to building healthier communities and a healthy America. This is the 8th year of the program in the Triangle Region, and GSK is proud to continue its partnership with Triangle Community Foundation in the administration of the awards.

Eligibility: Eligible organizations include small and mid-size nonprofits with existing programs that have demonstrated results; that are operating in Chatham, Durham, Orange and/or Wake Counties; and that address at least one of the following factors that affect health:

  1. Diet & Exercise
  2. Education
  3. Housing & Transit
  4. Employment
  5. Community safety and
  6. Family & Social Support.

The application deadline is Friday, April 15, 2016 (prior to submitting an application, organizations must register online by Friday, March 25, 2016). Interested applicants are invited to participate in one of two conference calls being held on Wednesday, March 9 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. ET (click to add to calendar) or Tuesday, March 15 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. ET (click to add to calendar). Selection Process: GSK and TCF staff review applications and select no more than 20 finalists (spring). A panel comprised of local and national community health experts and GSK representatives perform site visits, evaluate the finalist applications, and select up to ten winners (summer). The winners will be notified in the fall and presented with their GSK IMPACT Award and $40,000 each at a ceremony at GSK’s RTP facility in late 2016.

The History of GSK IMPACT Awards: For twenty years, GSK has honored outstanding nonprofit organizations that are improving health in and around our U.S. corporate campuses in Durham, North Carolina and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with GSK IMPACT Awards. The name ‘IMPACT’ is an acronym capturing the six guiding principles of the awards – winning organizations must be: Innovative, Measured, Partnered, Accountable, Community-centered, and Transformative. To date, 201 exemplary U.S.-based nonprofits have been honored with $8,460,000 in GSK IMPACT Awards in both the Greater Philadelphia and Triangle Regions.
