GSK honors Triangle nonprofits making a positive IMPACT on health outcomes

Issued: Research Triangle Park, NC

Ten nonprofits will receive $40,000 to support healthy eating, quality employment and education, affordable housing, and other social determinants of health.

GSK [LSE/NYSE: GSK] today announced the GSK IMPACT Award Winners in a ceremony at GSK’s RTP site. Ten local nonprofits were awarded $40,000 each in recognition of their outstanding contributions to a healthier Triangle region.  This highly competitive program highlights organizations that are working hand-in-hand with the community to improve health.

“Health is about so much more than what happens in the doctor’s office,” said Jamey Millar, Senior Vice President of Managed Markets & Government Affairs at GSK.  “All of the community issues that our GSK IMPACT Award Winners address have a meaningful impact on health outcomes for individuals and families in the Triangle.”

The winners are:

The GSK IMPACT Awards are one of several programs GSK offers as part of a commitment to building healthier communities across the United States, especially in the communities where we live and work like the Triangle Region.

The winners were selected by a panel of local and national community leaders through a competitive process. The nonprofits needed to demonstrate innovative, measured and sustainable approaches to addressing at least one of the following health factors: 1) Diet and exercise, 2) Education, 3) Housing and transit, 4) Employment, 5) Family and social support, and 6) Community safety.

In the Triangle Region, the GSK IMPACT Awards are presented in partnership with Triangle Community Foundation (@TriComFdn).

“Community health is about so much more than healthcare,” said Lori O’Keefe, President and CEO of Triangle Community Foundation. “It’s about feeling safe in our neighborhoods, being empowered as a community, having access to financial literacy tools, and the ability to put health first. By investing in thriving communities, families, and individuals, it means a healthier community for all.”

The awards ceremony will feature a keynote address from Gayle B. Harris, Public Health Director and General Manager for Community Well-being in Durham County, about the importance of healthy neighborhoods and communities.

The History of GSK IMPACT Awards:  For more than twenty years, GSK has honored outstanding nonprofit organizations that are improving health in and around our US corporate campuses in Durham, North Carolina and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with GSK IMPACT Awards.
