Eighty Philadelphia teachers to attend “Empowering STEM” on Monday, April 8th

Empowering STEM is full-day conference supporting teachers in tackling Philadelphia’s STEM career challenge. Mayor James Kenney and Superintendent William Hite are set to welcome attendees.

Issued: Philadelphia

GSK and the Philadelphia Education Fund host “Empowering STEM” a free one-day conference for 80 Philadelphia teachers on Monday, April 8, 2019 at GSK’s Navy Yard Headquarters.

With millions more jobs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) than workers to fill them, teachers across the country are increasingly being asked to play a more significant role in exciting their students to pursue careers in this high-paying, high-growth sector.

Following welcome remarks from Mayor James Kenney, Superintendent William Hite, and a keynote address from Judd Pittman, the Pennsylvania Secretary of Education’s Special Consultant for STEM, the 80 Philadelphia teachers selected to attend Empowering STEM will examine strategies for connecting classroom lessons to STEM careers.

Empowering STEM will also provide teachers with the unique opportunity to connect with STEM industry leaders, network with City and State leaders in STEM education, and investigate solar energy, explore urban watersheds, learn about local wildlife, and conduct simple science fair experiments.
