GSK IMPACT Awards

For more than 20 years, GSK has honored outstanding nonprofit programs that are working every day to address critical community health challenges in and around our US campuses in Durham, NC and Philadelphia, PA with GSK IMPACT Awards.

Recent IMPACT Award winners have been recognized for innovative and transformational programs that make our communities healthier. These local nonprofit organizations are improving education, keeping kids active, making homes and neighborhoods safer, connecting families to support services, and preparing people of all ages for successful careers – all important factors to improve health outcomes in underserved neighborhoods.

To date, exemplary US-based nonprofits have been honored with over $10 million in GSK IMPACT Awards.

2018 GSK IMPACT Awards for the Triangle Region – Winners:

Bridge II Sports serves physically disabled youth and adults by implementing opportunities for them to play team, individual, and recreational sports in an accessible and safe environment.

Chatham County Council on Aging, Inc. has a longtime commitment to the well-being of the growing older population in Chatham County through a wide array of programs and services.

Durham CAN – Congregations Associations and Neighborhoods develops local leadership and organizes power to change the conditions that prevent low- and moderate-income families from improving their circumstances.

Durham P.R.O.U.D. Program fosters responsible behavior among Durham’s young people, to deter court-referred youth from becoming repeat offenders and decreases the dropout rate of students.

El Centro Hispano, Inc. serves Latinos in the Triangle area, they work to strengthen the community, build bridges, and serve as advocates for equity and inclusion.

Inter-Faith Council for Social Service confronts the causes and responds to the effects of poverty by helping the community meet basic needs including housing, healthy food, and meaningful social connection.

StepUp Ministry transforms the lives of children and adults by helping them improve their life skills and by providing employment training.

The Daniel Center for Math and Science narrows the education gap in math, science, and technology, for at-risk and economically disadvantaged children, preparing and motivating them to pursue a post-high school education.

The Green Chair Project, Inc. works collaboratively to provide the comforts of home through donated household furnishings to renew the lives of clients recovering after homelessness, crisis, or disaster.

Triangle Literacy Council, Inc. improves the lives of adults, youth, and families by teaching basic literacy and life skills for economic and social success.

2018 GSK IMPACT Awards for Greater Philadelphia – Winners:

ACLAMO Family Centers provides educational programs, social services and access to health and wellness programs to Latinos and community members to empower them to fully achieve their life potential.

CASA Youth Advocates, Inc. creates social and family supports for children in Delaware and Chester counties who have suffered the most egregious adverse childhood experiences: physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect and removal from home.

Drueding Center serves the most vulnerable homeless families in Philadelphia ensuring that they have the skills and resources to live independently and reach their individual measure of success.

Greener Partners improves community health in under-resourced communities through food, farms and education.

Healthy NewsWorks empowers elementary and middle school students to promote health, well-being, and literacy for their peers, families and communities.

HUNE, Inc. works with youth with disabilities, and families of children and youth with disabilities, to improve their educational and lifelong goals.

Institute for the Development of African-American Youth, Inc. works with low-income at-risk youth and their families in Philadelphia by providing opportunities for employment, internship, education, and community service.

Justice At Work supports low-wage workers as they pursue economic and social justice through the provision of legal services, education and advocacy.

PAR-Recycle Works is an electronics recycler that provides transitional employment to people reintegrating into society from prison.

Youth United for Change develops young leaders in Philadelphia to empower them to improve the quality of their lives and communities.

National Employee Choice

Building on the success of GSK’s 22-year-old GSK IMPACT Awards program – which recognizes nonprofits around corporate campuses in Philadelphia, PA and Durham, NC – employees across the US selected local nonprofits that are helping their neighbors to live healthier lives through nutrition, physical activity, education and a variety of social services.

Since the start of the GSK IMPACT Awards, GSK has given hundreds of nonprofits more than $10 million. To select the recipients, thousands of US employees voted for nonprofits that were nominated by their colleagues for the $10,000 award.
