Working Mother magazine profiled GSK's Anne Whitaker and other women who work for companies that earned a spot in the magazine's "100 Best Companies Hall of Fame." Hall of Fame status is awarded only to those companies appearing on the Working Mother Best Companies list for 15 years or more.
Anne Whitaker, VP and Business Unit Head, Critical and Supportive Care Division has worked for GSK for 15 years. For many years, she felt that she was balancing her work life with her personal responsibilities. "I always thought I was a healthy, well-balanced person: I ran marathons, exercised regularly, ate healthful foods," she said. "I was a marathon runner, I'd developed the mentality of 'pushing through'."
GSK sent me to the Energy for Performance program and it changed my life, professionally, personally, and physically.
But Anne felt she was out of balance-when she was at home she often worked, and when she was at work, she was often distracted by what she was unable to accomplish for her family. "GSK sent me to the Energy for Performance program and it changed my life, professionally, personally, and physically."

During the program, Anne learned better ways of giving her family or her coworkers the right level of attention, and immediately started to reprioritize. "Now I follow simple rituals that help me maintain balance in my life. On the way home from work, I put the cell phone away and mentally prepare to engage with my family," she said. "And I've given up marathons-now I do interval training," she continued, showing just how big of an impact the program had on her.
This is GSK’s 16th consecutive year appearing on the Working Mother 100 Best Companies list.
And if she does start to lose that delicate balance? "My sons take care of reminding me. They even use the language of the program: 'Mom, your not engaged'."
