Continuing Medical Education

Support for Continuing Medical Education

GSK is focusing its independent continuing medical education (CME) funding exclusively on initiatives that are designed to close healthcare professional performance gaps and improve patient health. For 2011, the GSK Center for Medical Education has identified 24 independent medical education providers who have been invited to submit grant proposals that meet our standards.

The key selection criteria require that the organizations are a not-for-profit academic medical center or their affiliated teaching or patient care institution or a professional association that represents healthcare professionals that deliver patient care. They also must be Accredited with Commendation by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and have a demonstrated or predicted capability of designing and delivering independent medical education programs that support improved healthcare professional practice performance and improve patient health.

GSK will fund independent medical education in disease areas selected because of the medical, social and economic burden they pose to society and the healthcare system. There are two grant award cycles each year. Strict guidelines are in place to ensure both high quality and independence of the funded educational initiatives.

In the spirit of full transparency, we will continue to post our areas of clinical interest, as well as criteria for provider selection, grant proposal funding criteria and an Executive Summary of all funded proposals. Grants for independent medical education will continue to be posted quarterly on the internet for public inspection.
