Don't be a snore loser - a relationship wake up call

New findings indicate snoring is a relationship stressor and can lead couples to separate beds

Parsippany, NJ, May 6, 2008 – While communication and romance must always be addressed to ensure a vibrant relationship, a new survey has found that snoring is also a major player.  In fact, separate bedrooms are seemingly no longer the exception to the rule as sleeping apart is now thought of as a way to achieve silence – not from fighting, but from snoring!

According to the survey, one in three people who share a bed with a snorer say snoring is among the top three things they would like to change about their mates.  Half of the snorers’ bed partners say that snoring disrupts their ability to get a good night’s sleep, leading more than 40 percent of them to confess to having slept in separate beds.  In fact, U.S. builders and architects predict that more than 60 percent of custom homes will have dual master bedrooms by 2015.[1]

"Snoring affects nearly 50 million U.S. households, and can be a huge issue in relationship stability. It can bring about resentment if the snorer refuses to seek help,” said Dennie Hughes, relationship expert and RelationTips columnist for USA WEEKEND.  “Many couples don’t realize that this problem can be addressed with a simple, drug-free solution, like Breathe Right Nasal Strips,” she adds, noting that it’s been a huge help in her own marriage because her husband snores.  “Waking up from a good night’s sleep puts me in a great, loving mood – a benefit for both of us!”

Breathe Right Nasal Strips reduce snoring by opening nasal passages so a person can breathe most effectively through their nose and close their mouth while sleeping.  Each drug-free, non-prescription nasal strip consists of flexible, "spring-like" bands, placed across the bridge of the nose.  The bands lift the sides of the nose allowing more air, providing snoring relief for a better night's sleep.  Breathe Right also facilitates better breathing for people with a deviated septum and nasal congestion relief due to the common cold or allergies.

Other survey findings include:

  • More than three out of every five snorers say they have woken themselves up from the sounds of their own snoring
  • “Lawnmower” was the sound most often used to describe the sound of snoring mates
  • 77 percent of snorers’ bed partners have tried nudging or poking and 43 percent reported shaking their snorer to lessen the snoring in their bedroom
  • Nearly two-thirds (62 percent) of snorers feel there is not much they can do about their snoring

“I've heard from people who are so affected by the lack of a good night’s sleep that their daytime performance is impacted,” said Dennie Hughes.  “I know what it’s like to wake up too tired to think, snappy and not civil, just trying to shake that can’t-stay-awake feeling,” she adds.  “When my husband realized all it took to change that feeling was a small strip across his nose, he was immediately on board to make things better.”

These new survey findings come in conjunction with Breathe Right’s new Stick it to Your Snorer Challenge.  The makers of Breathe Right are so confident you can find relief, simply purchase a box with the Stick it to Your Snorer label  - containing two extra strips - and if you’re not completely satisfied at the end of the 14 Night Challenge, you will receive a refund on your Breathe Right purchase.  For full Challenge details, visit www.StickittoYourSnorer.com.
