In 2004, we established our Clinical Study Register (formerly Clinical Trial Register) to publish clinical trial data related to marketed medicines. Although locally-approved prescribing information will continue to guide appropriate use of our medicines, the register serves as another resource for researchers, medical professionals and the public. By the end of May 2006, the register contained more than 2,600 summaries of clinical trials conducted in 50 countries to study 52 of our prescription medicines and vaccines, providing greater transparency of clinical results.

The cost of medicines is a real concern for Americans, particularly seniors who are retired and may be on fixed incomes. As patients seek ways of saving money, cross-border Internet sales have gone up—but buying cheaper versions of medicines in Canada or from other overseas sources may not be the best answer. Medicines bought over the Internet may be unsafe—even dangerous.

We've expanded our ability to develop and make flu vaccines, acquiring a Canadian vaccine company and doubling our production in Europe. We're also exploring ways of making flu vaccines more effective.
