Oncology Researcher

Dr. Jones is the director of the University of Southern California (USC) Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, a Distinguished Professor of Urology and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the USC Keck School of Medicine, and the H. Leslie Hoffman and Elaine S. Hoffman Chair in cancer research.

Dr. Jones finds motivation to conduct cancer research in a strong desire to make a difference in others’ lives. He was recently selected to co-lead one of the five Stand Up to Cancer “Dream Teams,” an initiative dedicated to funding cutting-edge research designed to bring new cancer treatment to patients. To Dr. Jones, Stand Up to Cancer has revolutionized cancer research, bringing the entire cancer community together to compete against cancer, instead of each other.

In his research, Dr. Jones studies the role that genetics play in the origin of cancer, specifically in the areas of diagnostic testing and the development of cancer therapies. Dr. Jones has advised on the development of treatments and provided input on several new therapies, in an effort to advance the treatment of cancer. His work has been recognized as a milestone in both gene expression and cancer by Nature magazine.

Dr. Jones has received a variety of honors, including being named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2010, a MERIT Award from the National Cancer Institute, the AACR Kirk A. Landon Prize for Basic Cancer Research in 2009 and the David Workman Memorial Award from the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation in 2008, and he is a past President of the American Association for Cancer Research. He is the author of more than 250 journal publications and book chapters, and he serves on several national and international committees, panels, and editorial boards.
