Benefits and rewards

The single greatest source of competitive advantage for any company is its people. TotalReward is designed to attract, retain, motivate, and develop the best people to do their best work.

TotalReward is underpinned by two key philosophies: paying for performance and share in our success. The link between individual performance and the success of GSK is at the heart of TotalReward.

TotalReward at GSK consists of:

  • Total cash—salary, bonus/incentive compensation, recognition awards, and long-term incentives for eligible employees
  • Lifestyle benefits—healthcare and other insurance coverages, an employee assistance program, dependent care resources, time off with pay, reimbursement programs, and corporate discounts
  • Savings choices—401(k) retirement savings plan, stock ownership account, cash balance pension plan, financial planning and education, and more

Salaries

We offer competitive base salaries that are reviewed annually. Bonuses are the main reward for performance, and are based on company performance and, for most employees, individual performance.

Bonuses

We also believe that it is important to recognize and reward special achievements and contributions by employees and teams.

Long-term incentives

Eligible employees are granted options to buy GSK shares at a future date at a set price, as an incentive for eligible employees to contribute to and have a personal stake in our success.

Lifestyle benefits

We want to be sure that you can balance your work and personal life, and to care for yourself and your family—whatever your circumstances.

Lifestyle benefits include:

  • Healthcare and other insurance coverage (medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance, prescription drug coverage with GSK prescription drugs covered at 100%)
  • A confidential assistance program with online advice and support
  • Family support services to help planning for, and finding care for, your dependents—children and elderly relatives—and access to a network of primary and back-up preschool and school-age child care
  • Paid vacation (typically 3 weeks per year) and 13 paid holidays, as well as paid time off for incidental and unforeseen needs, and
    short-term disability coverage
  • Reimbursement programs to help with post-secondary education expenses, adoption assistance, scholarship programs, and certain wellness programs
  • Corporate discounts on many products and services, from eye care to long-term care insurance, theme parks, retail operations, as well as auto and home insurance

Savings choices

As part of our partnership approach, we share with you the responsibility for saving for your financial future by offering a range of savings choices that enable you to plan around your individual needs. These include:

  • A flexible, tax-effective individual 401(k) retirement savings plan
  • After one year, a stock ownership account that automatically puts 2% of your eligible salary into GSK stock
  • After one year, enrollment in the company-paid cash balance pension plan, which invests 5% of your eligible salary into a fully portable account
  • Either of two optional after-tax savings programs
  • A financial education program
