GSK and Liberty/Synterra broke ground on GSK’s future workplace at The Philadelphia Navy Yard.
Key facts
- In February 2011, GSK signed a 15.5 year agreement with Liberty Property Trust to lease a new facility to be built at Five Crescent Drive at The Navy Yard in Philadelphia.
- The building is being developed by Liberty/Synterra Partners and designed by Robert A.M. Stern, the award-winning architectural firm that designed the Comcast Center.
- Five Crescent Drive will be a 205,000 square foot, four-story building with a glass atrium and street, a high energy gathering area for employees.
- The interiors are being designed to offer a variety of work settings for employees and to encourage collaboration and communication.
- Construction began in February 2011 and will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2012.
- GSK and Liberty/Synterra broke ground on June 9, 2011.
- All GSK staff from One and Three Franklin Plaza will be moving to the new site in the fourth quarter of 2012 through the first quarter of 2013.
- The building will be designed for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification in an internationally recognized “green” building rating system.

Topping off ceremony marks completion of steel beam installation at Five Crescent Drive
Construction workers and executives from GSK, Liberty Property Trust, and LF Driscoll signed and hoisted the final beam of Five Crescent Drive during the "topping off" ceremony on December 16, 2011. The building, which will house GSK’s Philadelphia employees, is on track for completion by Q4 2012.
